Tropical Storm Chantal has made landfall in South Carolina early Sunday morning as officials warn of flash flooding and "life threatening" surf and rip currents as the storm system moves inland

Tropical Storm Chantal has formed off the southeastern U.S. coast. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says tropical storm warnings have been issued for portions of the Carolinas.

Tropical Storm Chantal was downgraded to a depression Sunday but raised concerns of possible flash flooding as it makes its way through central North Carolina toward south-central Virginia.
