Despite such lackluster numbers, first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn suggested on Tuesday that he is ignoring "the noise that happens on the outside" regarding the team's passing offense. On Wednesday, Jets passing game coordinator Scott Turner praised Fields for knowing when to take a checkdown and when to challenge an opposing defense.
On the the Jets' final day of training camp, players got a taste of regular season action. There was heavy rain in Florham Park for almost all of Tuesday's session, and crowd noise was pumped through the speakers during an extensive move-the-ball period as the offense and defense exchanged blows.
Offensive woes have held the Jets back for years, dating back to Mark Sanchez’s four-year tenure as New York’s starting quarterback from 2009-12. The Jets have tried first-round picks (the less said about Zach Wilson, the better), veteran journeymen, and even got a relatively strong season from Aaron Rodgers last year.
The Justin Fields signing is looking more and more like a huge mistake for the New York Jets with every passing snap he takes. He is no longer all that interested in throwing the ball, mostly because he never bothered to learn how to read any NFL defense.
