Hurricane Erin may be 700 miles away, but our Jersey Shore beaches are taking no chances, banning swimming and surfing as dangerous surf conditions loom.

During what he called “one of the biggest weeks” on the Jersey Shore, Gov. Phil Murphy and some of his emergency managers led a group of mayors and county executives of Jersey Shore communities on Tuesday to tell people to stay out of the ocean this week.
