A continuing resolution to avoid a partial government shutdown passed the Senate 54-46 Friday evening. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer decided to advance the bill backed by President Donald Trump despite strong opposition from members of his own party.
Senate advances Continuing Resolution to final vote with help of some Democrats
The Republican-led Senate on Friday voted to end debate on its six-month Continuing Resolution, preparing the chamber to vote on passing the legislation later in the day. A total of 10 Senate Democrats and Independents helped advance the resolution in a 62-38 vote, which needed a three-fifths majority to advance.
