The state received $31 million from the Energy Department to fund a new push to help low-income households become more energy efficient.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm, joined by Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER), announced the launch of the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program.

Eligible residents will be able to save up to $4,000 on an electrical panel upgrade, up to $2,500 on electrical wiring, and up to $840 on an electric stove, cooktop, range, or oven and/or an Energy Star-certified electric heat-pump clothes dryer.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm will make a couple of stops in Rhode Island on Tuesday. Gov. Dan McKee will accompany Secretary Granholm at events in Cranston and Providence. In Cranston Granholm will attend a consumer savings townhall.
