Matthew Gant said 14-year-old Mary Steele Gant was at Camp Mystic in central Texas when the camp was overwhelmed by flash flooding, WMC Action News 5 reported. Rain overwhelmed the Guadalupe River on July 4, causing it to rise as much as 26 feet in less than two hours.

Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian camp in Texas, said it lost 27 counselors and campers when a wall of water slammed into its cabins built along the Guadalupe River during devastating flash floods.

At least 47 people are dead in central Texas in what officials called a "mass casualty event" after devastating flash floods slammed Hill Country, with water rescues taking place along the Guadalupe River.

The death toll from the destructive Texas flash floods rose to 51 Saturday, with hundreds of rescuers combing through water and debris to find missing people, including children from a summer camp. The majority of fatalities were recorded along Guadalupe River basin in Kerr County.
