A dozen students from northwest Indiana flew to Washington D.C. Thursday to experience the week of the presidential inauguration and learn about the democratic process.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana National Guard soldiers traveled to Washington D.C. Friday in preparation to provide support for the 60th U.S presidential inauguration scheduled for Monday.

INDIANA (WTHI) - Indiana National Guard soldiers will deploy to support the 60th Presidential Inauguration. They will be traveling to Washington, D.C., to support the event on Monday. Indiana Guardsmen will be joining around 8,000 National Guard service members from 40 states and territories.

“I’m excited to be joining the Pennsylvania (Republican National Convention) Delegation in Washington, D.C., and witnessing one of the most historic Presidential Inaugurations in my lifetime,” said Hunter Overdorff, of Brush Valley Township, who has been active in GOP activity since his days at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Some local students are heading to Washington D.C. this morning for a one-of-a-kind field trip to see the inauguration.
