The New York Yankees crushed a franchise record-tying nine home runs in a dominant 13-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

According to Bryan Hoch of MLB .com, that makes the Yankees the first team in Major League Baseball history with multiple nine-homer games, period. The fact that they did so twice in the same season is the type of baseball oddity that makes the game so fun to watch.

The Rays took three of the four series out west, but were swept by the Seattle Mariners for their lone series which meant that they were an even .500 over the 12-game span. Thus, their record is 61-64, 6.5 games back in the Wild Card chase; all three Wild Card teams are currently tied in the standings.
