Norman Wong, a retired carpenter, never met Wong Kim Ark. He only learned about the role his ancestor played in U.S. history in the 1980s, when his father found out through a newspaper article.

Norman Wong, Ark's great grandson, said Trump's efforts to roll back anyone's rights is a threat to everyone's rights. "Where's the Constitution? Our laws are based on it," he said.

San Francisco resident Norman Wong is the great-grandson of Wong Kim Ark, who fought for birthright citizenship 127 years ago. He said everyone took it for granted as a constitutional right.

Norman Wong said that this shows that rights are always in flux, and need to be continuously advocated for. “We’re going to get the world that we’re willing to fight for,” Wong said.

Norman Wong, who is Wong Kim Ark’s great-grandson, gave his humble thanks for his relative’s fight in the courts — one many people don’t know about — that established a precedent.
