U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds represents cities in Southwest Florida, including Cape Coral and Naples. He said he will run for governor in next year’s election. Donalds would make history as the first African American to serve in that role if elected.

While Ron DeSantis can't run for governor again in 2026, some voters might want to see another DeSantis on the ballot. But one notable Florida voter, President Donald Trump, seems to have another candidate in mind.

Instead, the governor gave some of his strongest words of support to date for someone who could become his choice for 2026 — his wife, First Lady Casey DeSantis, who has never held elective office.
