A bus and car collided in western New York state, resulting in “multiple fatalities” and the shutdown of a major thoroughfare on Friday, authorities said.

The crash, which occurred about 30 miles east of Buffalo, caused multiple injuries and shut down part of one of western New York’s main highways, officials said.

According to a news release from state police, 52 people, including the driver, were on board the bus at the time of the incident.
