The Boston Red Sox went into the All-Star Break on a 10-game win streak. They are set up to be buyers at the trade deadline, but one thing could change their plans.
According to The Athletic, Rays owner Stu Sternberg has agreed in principle to sell the team for $1.7 billion, with a deal expected to come as soon as September. The new owners will reportedly be a group that is led by Florida-based real estate developer Patrick Zalupski.
The 2025 draft marked chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s second at the helm, and his first overseeing the full 12-month scouting cycle. The Sox spent eight of their first 10 picks on pitchers this year, and across Breslow’s two drafts, have used 29 of their 41 total selections on pitchers.
The Boston Red Sox selected right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon with the 15th pick in the MLB Draft on Sunday.
