There are blue laws in Massachusetts that put restrictions on businesses for certain holidays. But while most banks are closed for the Fourth, most retailers will be open for anyone who needs last-minute supplies for their July 4th cookout. Yes, liquor stores can open on July 4th in Massachusetts.

The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and bond markets will close early the day before Independence Day (Thursday, July 3, 2025), ending for the day at 1 p.m., and will be closed on the Fourth of July. Those markets are typically open Monday through Friday, aside from select holidays.

Over 20 beaches in Massachusetts are closed on July 4 across the state, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Interactive Beach Water Quality Dashboard. A total of 22 beaches are closed in towns such as Ashby, Beverly, Dartmouth and Salem.
