A driver caused heavy damage to the Island Heights boardwalk early Sunday after crashing into it, officials said. The motorist lost control of a car at about 1:15 a.m. in the area of River Avenue, pulling down power lines and toppling a street light, Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 said Sunday morning.

Williams was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and was ticketed for other moving violations, police said. Police, firefighters and rescuers were called to the scene at 1:18 a.
