All Colorado locations of Del Taco, a popular fast food restaurant that serves Mexican food, were abruptly closed Thursday, except for one. The company said in an emailed statement to USA TODAY on Friday that Del Taco franchise locations in Denver and Colorado Springs "are temporarily closed.

Del Taco abruptly closed all but one of its Colorado restaurants on Thursday with no explanation, according to signs posted on doors and a statement from the company.

All but one Del Taco location in Colorado closed abruptly Thursday, though the company said it is working to reopen them “as soon as possible.”

Signs were posted on the doors alerting customers that, effective Thursday, “Colorado Del Taco locations are closed until further notice.” Signs were also posted in the drive-through.

Joining the ranks of other long-standing chains such as itself, Del Taco has abruptly closed nearly all of its Colorado-based restaurants. A spokesperson with the chain noted that 18 out of the 19 locations are only “temporarily closed” and are expected to reopen “as soon as possible.”

Del Taco patrons were met with a surprise late this week when they pulled up to locations throughout Colorado and were met with locked doors and signs saying the restaurants were closed.

The Grand Junction location will remain open because it’s operated by a different franchise. But the other 18 Del Tacos in the state closed abruptly Thursday. The chain hasn’t commented on what prompted the closure.

For all the debate over the restaurant relief bill (up for discussion at the Colorado Legislature on March 3), the hottest topic on the Denver dining scene this week was the abrupt closing of all but one of the nineteen Del Taco locations in the state.
