The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday in effect until Thursday at 3 a.m. for Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Monroe, Washington and Wilcox counties.

A tornado watch is in effect for areas of Alabama, including counties in the WEAR-TV area. The watch is in effect until 3:00 a.m. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said early Wednesday afternoon, "Conditions favorable for rotating storms capable of tornadoes and damaging winds will increasingly expand north-northeastward across the region through the afternoon and early evening.

This affects Baton Rouge and some counties in southwestern Mississippi. Parishes and counties along and east of I-55 are under an enhanced risk. According to the National Weather Service, a watch is used when the risk of hazardous weather has increased significantly,
