I am contemplating driving to Stiring Point from Queenstown (2hrs 45mins) and then to Dunedin (3 hrs 15mins) before heading up to Lake Tekapo (1hr 15mins). Is it worth the drive to see Stiring Point ? Otherwise, I will rather drive straight to Lake Tekapo.

Not worth it unless you have time to stop at other places between SP and Dunedin.
